-Reseña autor: Joaquín Santaella: Joaquín Fernández Santaella Martín-Artajo (Madrid, 1955), periodista por la Universidad Complutense, fue corresponsal de la Agencia EFE en Brasil y subdirector del suplemento dominical del diario ABC de Madrid, así como becado en Estados Unidos por la Fundación Marshall. Es autor de los libros “Vino Torcido” (editorial Edinexus y editorial Páramo, varias ediciones) y “The Spanish House” (editorial Rizzoli, Nueva York, varias ediciones). Está en posesión de diversos premios de relato y novela, y actualmente ejerce la profesión desde su residencia en Sotogrande.

-Reseña obra: "Cartas de Sotogrande": se trata de un encargo que me hizo la malagueña editorial Edinexus con motivo del cincuentenario de la fundación de Sotogrande. Se trata de unas cartas que durante años mantuve con una amiga mía que siempre me estaba preguntando que qué hacía yo viviendo en Sotogrande, donde, según ella, durante el año no se puede hacer otra cosa que jugar al golf o al bridge.

En un estilo ameno y natural lleno de ironía, y otras sin pretensiones que mostrarle cómo es el día a día de la urbanización, vengo a describir los diferentes personajes y situaciones que conforman este entorno tan raro, en el mejor sentido del adjetivo, que no es campo, pueblo ni ciudad, y que hoy es impensable sin las poblaciones de alrededor ni viceversa. A través de ellos va saliendo poco a poco la historia de Sotogrande, las vivencias de unos y de otros, su percepción de ello, destinado, ya digo, a destruir de una vez por todas el cliché de que Sotogrande es lo que se ve en la tele en agosto. Pues, después de medio siglo, se ha generado una sociedad diversa donde ya hay un poco de todo, desde pintores de brocha gorda o fina, a duques y millonarios, pasando por profesionales libres.

Habida cuenta de que no existe nada escrito en plan puramente literario, alguien tenía que escribir este libro después de medio siglo, y tanto la editorial como yo mismo comprendimos que yo tenía muchas papeletas como residente y como escritor, lo que llevo a cabo a lo largo de 300 páginas con dibujos a color, en una mezcla que yo he bautizado de 'relataje', al estar a medias entre el relato y el reportaje..

Como aquí vivimos en plena naturaleza, "Cartas de Sotogrande" está dividido en las cuatro partes naturales del año, con el resultado de una Carta por cada estación.

-Biographical details: Joaquín Santaella: Joaquín Fernández Santaella Martín-Artajo (Madrid, 1955), a journalism graduate by the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, formerly a foreign correspondent for EFE News Agency in Brazil and assistant manager for the Sunday supplement of the ABC newspaper in Madrid, as well as recipient of a scholarship from the Marshall Foundation in the United States. Author of books "Vino Torcido" (published by Edinexus and Páramo, several editions) and "The Spanish House" (published by Rizzoli, New York, several editions). Awarded with several prizes for narrative and novels, currently working from his home in Sotogrande.

-Review: "Cartas de Sotogrande" was commissioned by Edineux Publishers in Málaga, on occasion of the 50^th anniversary of the foundation of Sotogrande. The book is about the correspondence maintained between myself and a friend who kept asking me what I was doing living in Sotogrande, where, according to her, all one can do all year round is limited to either playing golf or bridge.

Its style is amusing, natural and irony-filled, and its goal is none other than to recount day-to-day life in this residential area; I come to describe the different characters and situations that shape these strange surroundings, and I say strange in the best sense of the word, a place which is neither the countryside, nor a town or city, and which could not be conceived without the towns surrounding it, the opposite being also true. It is through those places and characters, and their life experiences and perceptions, that the history of Sotogrande is shaped, all of which is aimed at once and for all destroying the cliché that Sotogrande is nothing but what one sees on TV in August. Because after half a century, a new society where there is a bit of everything has emerged, there are house painters, artists, dukes, millionaires and professionals.

Taking into consideration that there is no literary work whatsoever about this, after half a century, somebody had to write this book, and both the publishers and myself felt that due to being a local and a writer, I was the ideal candidate to do so. Its 300 colour illustrated pages are a blend I like to call "relaporting", due to being half way between relating and reporting.

As we live in the middle of nature, "Cartas de Sotogrande" is divided in the year's four natural sections, resulting in a Letter per season.
